wow – it’s really just my life and the stories I am chasing… If you are taking specifically about the Dakar Rally – it’s a legendary race and it is a powerful, life changing event… People still need a battle and still need hope.

Hi Shawna,
I have been following your trails and tribulations for the past two years. It would seem we have a bit in common; like you I went to north Africa to be a part of the Dakar only to have a childhood dream crushed at the last minute. I stayed in Morocco for a few weeks after explored the country by motorbike along with many other disappointed riders. It was at this point I realised how much this event meant to so many people from all walks of life. I was hooked, I had to be in South America to follow the rally again.
I contacted you mid way through last year to try and find out how you gain a foot inside the event, for me all my footage was from the perspective of an avid rally follower whom had traveled from Australia to be at the event. I thought I could help out in some way. I am a teacher who teaches film studies and I have no fancy production name or films to my name. I just wanted to share to passion for the event with other liked minded people.
I did get to South America and I was luck enough to cross paths with different stages, again all on motorcycle and unsupported. Yet again I was amazed by the courage and the will of the competitors.
You should be extremely proud of your efforts, it is a gig to be a part of and I have no idea how tough it must have been for you. But you never gave up, you yourself were no different to one of the racers. You are and have been apart of this amazing rally and that is something that most people will not ever come close to.
I am certain you will finish all of your projects and look back at all of this and have a bit of a giggle at your craziness. I am sure we cross paths some day, especially now I know your part Kootney kid. My partner is from Nelson and we head over to catch up with the family every two years. We are planning on moving back sometime in the next couple of years now that our little one has joined us.
You are an inspiring film maker and I look forward to the end product.
