EventREEL – A Whirlwind ‘Tour de France’
Posted by Shawna Cox on October 5, 2007
Ok, may be not THE Tour de France, but definately a whirlwind throughout France!
Landing in Nice then shuttling over to Cannes for MIPCOM 2007, where I will introduce the Dakar Projects and gather data and find a home for these puppies and get a finacial and distibution plan for VW for the lingering hope of a media seat for 2008 Dakar Rally.
I am thinking it will have the same feel as speed dating – I haven’t yet had the opportunity to participate in speed dating (running from it like the plague!) – but something about a conference building brimming with everyone ‘presenting their goods’ from around the globe within a hyper compressed time frame… somehow being 6 and playing musical chairs makes sense (and sounds like more fun.
)
Yes, now I am dreading being razzed and snubbed for comparing MIPCOM to Speed dating – but we are in France and it is the country of Romance, so… Ok, done justifying…
And in true Canadian Film Girl form, I will have to leave MIPCOM early, whisking away in the night to Paris for a 10 o’clock with Julie from ASO (the sporting organization that organizes the Dakar Rally) to discuss rights and licensing for 2009 and the series leading up to the 2009 Dakar Rally.
…and I am still torn between hitting the train from Cannes even earlier to fill a request to work 2 days as a 2nd AD on my AFM buddy’s Feature he is filming in Paris with one of the leads from the Soprano’s hit series… How can there be so much to choose from in one week in a completely seperate country? Welcome to my life – it is Karmatic…
At the end of it all, a great sinus infection (yuck) still in tow – I did pack my travel sketch book and hope to escape to Monet’s world just for a couple days before I find my way home… I have a feeling I just might get lost over there, out there – under that tree with this nice glass of Red and this soft yet earthy cheese…
Will keep you posted as the internet allows (learning my lesson far to slowly…)
Ciao and I will say ‘Bonjour’ to France for you.
