EventREEL – Primm 300 | Ryan Arciero Meeting
Posted by Shawna Cox on September 26, 2007
Finding myself in the Nevada desert, just barely across the state line and Vegas still an hour away. Off to Primm to finally meet with Desert Racer, Ryan Arciero (Mark Miller’s North American Team mate) about his participation in the TV series.
Personality and Professionalism were the tag words for the weekend… except for those tequila shots that we won’t mention… The Tree Bar is a must!!
With Darren Skilton as my tour guide, I was whisked from the LAX airport right into the heart of a casino and desert racing destination. Not quite Vegas, but in the 40 Deg. Celcius heat, I wasn’t thinking about denario’s… I was thinking about dehydration!
Meeting with Mark Miller’s North American team mate, Ryan Arciero, on the day before the Primm 300 Score International Desert Race. Ryan is one of the featured racers for the series and meeting with him – FINALLY after months of schedule conflicts – proved well worth the wait. Ryan’s energy and passion was right on cue. Following Ryan own pursuits as well as his support of Mark in the Dakar in 2008 definitely rounds out the strength behind the projects – surrounded by an incredible team that is not just successful but personable and humble.
Race day started out following Darren’s brother, Gavin Skilton and his team. Starting to focus more on the video work, I was granted a filming moment as Gavin pulled into the pit with a mechanical that provided me with the goods that make or break a racer. The team pulled it all together and Gavin was back on track, but too much time was lost and the win slipped away.
In the afternoon, I was stalking Ryan at the Arciero-Miller pit. I meet up again with team manager, Don Tebbe, who was at the helm and with Wolfram (the rogue VW engineer) stepping in where ever help was needed. The preps were made and the team set off for the start with Ryan prepping to take the wheel midway through the race.
The danger of the sport was felt only seconds off one of the starts. A vehicle accelerated off of a jump, landing nose first then flipped end over end. The co-driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

thanks for taking a spin around!!
Next is some desert testing and a Mexican Slip and Slide… You’d better come back and take a dive in the desert at Joshua Tree.
